Helping you work on the most important relationship in your life; your relationship with yourself

Hi, I am Renee McLaughlin

I founded Psychology Solutions Gold Coast in 2013, with the desire to truly help others to achieve meaningful and sustained results. I work with people who struggle to create the life they desire. I am privileged to be able to help others get to the core of their problems and teach them how to have a genuinely loving relationship with themself. Often we need someone to stand with us as we contemplate diving into unfamiliar territory; or someone to give us a gentle push when we are stuck in our comfort zone. This is where I can help you. I see my greatest gift as being able to sit alongside you, holding a safe space for your discomfort, supporting you in your efforts, pointing out potential pitfalls and being the caring nudge you may need at times.  It brings me great joy to see clients overcome their difficulties and start to treat themselves with the same warmth and compassion they extend to the people they love the most.

I also get great pleasure in working with fellow clinicians, through the provision of professional supervision and clinical workshops. I am incredibly passionate about helping other practitioners enhance their clinical skills and build confidence in their clinical work. My focus is on providing meaningful clinical guidance, whilst helping clinicians to remain passionate about the important work we do. If you think we could be a good fit to work together don't hesitate to get in touch.

Working with me

Having worked as a psychologist across a variety of organisational settings over the last 20 years, I bring a wealth of knowledge and professional experience to my work. I have significant experience providing treatment for a range of emotional problems, interpersonal difficulties and self-limiting behaviours; as well as more complex clinical presentations.

While I have extensive training in more traditional therapies (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), I work predominately from an Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) framework. I have completed three years core training in ISTDP and am currently involved in advance training in this model.

ISTDP is an evidence-based psychotherapy that facilitates long-term resolution of a range of psychological problems. It is an attachment-based, emotionally focused therapy that helps people overcome their automatic patterns of how they relate to themselves, others and the world around them.

I pride myself on being able to offer an emotionally safe environment, where you can explore your problems without fear of judgement. My aim is to always work in partnership with you, ensuring that we focus on the problems that you want to focus on and help you create the outcomes that you want to achieve. I am incredibly proud of the trusted reputation I have built in the community, with the bulk of my referrals coming from word of mouth; which in my line of work there is no greater compliment.

When I’m not working you’ll find me...

1 Getting creative making soaps and candles or restoring old furniture; there’s always a project on the go at my house.

2 Burning beautiful candles; not a day goes by when a candle isn’t burning somewhere in my home.

3 Making home-made pasta, bread and jams; my chilli jam seems to be a crowd favourite.

4 Beach walks with my husband, son and our ‘baby girl’ (Bella the beagle); how good are our GC beaches!

5 Eating my body weight in cold oranges; yep I’m an orange fanatic! I have dreams of having my own orange orchard one day.

6 Hanging with my bestie of over 30 years; always involves a good coffee, non-stop chatter and giggles.

7 Relaxing in my PJs; yep as soon as I’m home its PJs on no matter what time it is!

8 Playing boardgames and splashing about in the pool with the family; together with a killer cheese platter of course.
